Friesen, Lyndon (1955- )

Born July 20, 1955 in Steinbach Manitoba, Lyndon Friesen started working in radio in the Sales Department  of CHSM Steinback , a Golden West station, in 1977, and by 1978 he was Manager of the station.

 In 1990, Lyndon was made general manager, radio for Golden West Broadcasting.  He became General Manager for CHRB/CFXL Calgary and CHRB High River in 1993.  By 2000, his value to the station group for which Lyndon had managed nearly all of Golden West’s radio stations, was such that he was made Vice President of the company.

As the Company sought more stations, Lyndon played a major role in the take-overs and start-ups and was rewarded by being made Executive Vice President of Golden West in 2003, and Chief Operating Officer in 2006 as well as Executive Vice-President.

In May of 2008, he was appointed President. The company had started its first station in 1957, and by this time they had expanded to 28 stations with more than 250 employees. They had also been voted one of Canada’s Best Employers.

Lyndon found time to support the industry as Vice-Chair Radio of the Board of Canadian Association of Broadcasters, as well as serving on numerous committees He was Immediate Past President of the Western Association of Broadcasters, and  a member of the Broadcaster Association of Manitoba.

Lyndon was also active in his home town of Steinbach, and served on the Steinbach Chamber of Commerce Executive Board.

Lyndon Friesen was inducted to the CAB Hall of Fame in 2009.
