Radio 1926

CJOR Vancouver, B. C. 1030 Kc, 50 watts (authorized)

Station History:

CJOR was purchased from Fred Hume in New Westminster, B.C. in 1926, by George Chandler. The transmitter and studios were moved to the St. Julian Apartments, later called the Ritz. Chandler slept in the bedroom, the kitchen was the engineering workshop, and the living room, the studio.

In 1928 they increased the power to their authorized 50 watts.

In 1930, CJOR moved to rooms above the Alexandra Ballroom, and later to Howe Street.

CJOR switched to 600 kc in 1933.

For a number of years, its new 500 watt transmitter made CJOR the most powerful commercial station in Vancouver.

In 1961, the station increased power to 10,000 watts.

CJOR remained in the hands of the Chandler family until the mid 1960s when it was bought by James Pattison Industries Ltd.

The call-sign "CJOR" was discarded for CHRX.

In 1986, Pattison's launched a new FM station - CJJR FM - on 93.7 MHz, powered at 75, 000 watts.
