Radio 1925

CFCT Victoria, B. C. 910 Kc. 500 watts

(started as CFCL Victoria then CFCT and finally CJVI)

Centennial Methodist Church under Dr. Clem Davies wanted to broadcast his church services, so they bought a 500 watt Marconi transmitter and had it on the air for Easter Sunday 1923. It was the first radio station in Victoria. They carried on with only religious broadcasting until 1925 when Dr. Davies left the church.

George Deville moved the transmitter downtown and obtained a new license, with new call letters CFCT, and began operating it commercially.

In 1941, the station was purchased by the Island Broadcasting Company owned by Jim Matson of the Daily Colonist and Taylor, Pearson & Carson Ltd. of Calgary who managed the station until 1951, when TP&C became the sole owner.

Taylor, Pearson & Carson evolved into Selkirk Communications Ltd. which held the license until 1989 when that company was purchased by Maclean Hunter The station was subsequently sold to Rogers Broadcasting Ltd.

In September 1995, Island Broadcasting Company, the owner of CJVI - AM purchased CFMS - FM , Victoria's oldest FM station and changed the call letters to CIOC-FM.
