Words and Music

Devised, or so the credits said, by bandleader Sammy Kaye, Words and Music was a daytime strip game show which asked contestants to identify people, places or things through a series of words and musical clues. For example, “Sport you might enjoy here” would be followed by the playing of “Moonlight in Vermont”, with “skiing” being the looked-for answer to the clue. As clues were solved, they were displayed on a crossword style game board, and the first clue-solver to identify the subject of the game was the winner.

Jim Perry hosted the program, and accomplished Montreal musician George Fiala

 played the musical clues on either the organ or the piano. The announcer was Nick Hollinrake. Words and Music probably placed rather too many demands on the intellect to be a ratings success, and it only lasted for the 1966-67 season. It played Monday to Friday at 3:00pm, and was produced at CFCF-TV Montreal.
