Painkiller Jane

Broadcast Run:
2007
Broadcast Medium:
Television

The first season of this show appeared on Global’s CH group of channels.  The second season moved to Global Network in the fall of 2007 .
Based upon the PAINKILLER JANE series of comic books by Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti, the setting was sometime in the near future, in a world locked in an escalating battle against terrorism and badly dealing with social and economic unrest.

This series followed the adventures of Jane Vasco (Kristanna Loken), nicknamed “Painkiller Jane” by her father, a woman with steely will and ability to mentally push through even the most painful situations.

Once the DEA’s top agent, she was recruited by a covert government organization dedicated to containing and, if necessary, neutralizing the threat of “Neuros” – individuals with superhuman neurological powers. No one knew what caused the aberrations that led to their enhanced abilities but their powers were vast and varied, anything from telekinesis and mind persuasion to imposed hallucinations. And Jane soon discovered she had some of these powers, too.  Though she could feel pain, she could not die or be killed, something she discovered in the season opener when she plummeted from the 46th floor of a building.

Jane set out to discover what, if any, connection she shared with the people she was pursuing.  The Neuros, though not ill-intentioned, wrought havoc wherever they go went to their inability to control their superhuman abilities.  They inadvertently left a trail of death and destruction behind.  So to prevent mass panic, the government had kept the discovery of the Neuros a secret, assembling a covert unit from various law enforcement agencies with a single mission: identify and contain Neuros.

Operating from a secure abandoned subway platform, the core members of the unit were Andre McBride (Rob Stewart), the seasoned team leader; Connor King (Noah Danby), a special agent regularly armed with a smart remark; Riley Jensen (Sean Owen Roberts), an evolved computer whiz in charge of surveillance and communications; Dr. Seth Carpenter (Stephen Lobo), the unit’s doctor and scientist; Joe Waterman (Nathaniel Deveaux), the older, caretaker of the subway; and Maureen Bowers (Alaina Huffman), Jane’s former DEA partner and friend.
