E.N.G.

Broadcast Run:
1990 to 1993
Broadcast Medium:
Television

Electronic News Gathering, the shooting of news stories on tape instead of film, provided the initials for this series' title. E.N.G. was set in a fictitious Toronto television station's newsroom, and explored the lives of the staff of the station as they covered the dramatic and mundane happenings of the city. No attempt was made to disguise the Toronto location.

The stars of this very successful series were Art Hindle as News Director Mike Fennell, Sara Botsford as his Executive Producer, and Mark Humphrey as cameraman Jake Antonelli. Other regular roles were played by Jonathan Welsh, Neil Daynard, Karl Pruner, Cynthia Belliveau, George R. Robertson and Clark Johnson. The series replaced "Night Heat" (q.v.) on Thursdays at 10:00pm in the fall of 1990, moved to 9:00pm the following year and ran for four years in all, gathering several Gemini Awards along the way. It was produced for CTV by Alliance Entertainment.
