Diamond Lil’s

Broadcast Run:
1969
Broadcast Medium:
Television

This series, which starred Canadian singer/actress Vanda King as the hostess and star performer in a lively saloon with dancers and a band, was a valiant but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to attempt to emulate the success of CTV’s hit series Pig and Whistle. Despite having the same production team, Lil’s diamonds didn’t have enough sparkle to take the show beyond a single season.

The time period didn’t help – 10:30pm on Thursdays was a little late for the show’s Pig and Whistle oriented demographic – and a solitary year after the show premiered in September 1969, the lights in this particular Diamond Lil’s dimmed for the last time.
