Neill, J. Stewart (1885-1962)
In 1923, from his home in Fredericton , New Brunswick, Stewart Neill arranged the broadcast locally of vocal and instrumental artists on his station 10AD, using 10 watts of power to reach the five receiving sets in the area.
In 1927, he obtained a private commercial licence and switched the call letters to CFNB which ultimately strengthened its service to the Maritimes with 50 watts. Over the year CFNB grew in stature under his guidance along with his son Malcom who followed in his father’s footsteps.
One of the founding members of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, Stewart Neill served as a director for several years.
He died in 1962.
Stewart Neill was posthumously inducted into the CAB Broadcast Hall of Fame in 1985.
