CHGA-FM (Community), Maniwaki

, Radio CHGA-FM

Radio Communautaire MF de la Haute-Gatineau Inc. received a licence for a new Community FM station at Maniwaki on March 20. It would broadcast with an effective radiated power of 2,877 watts on a frequency of 95.7 MHz. The filing of applications was not completed until after the recent CRTC freeze on FM which was imposed to allow the CBC time to complete a study on the utilization of frequencies. The CRTC decided to consider the applications on the basis that specific frequencies will not be assigned until the FM allocation plan is finalized. The CRTC also departed from the usual restrictions on community stations, allowing for as much as ten minutes per clock hour of conventional advertising on the new station.

The target date for start-up of CHGA-FM was September 1 but the station didn't get on the air until November. A McMartin FM transmitter was used. This type of broadcasting has been well supported by the Community Media Service of the Quebec Department of Communications.

CHGA-FM received permission to change its frequency from 95.7 MHz to 97.3 MHz. Power would remain 2,877 watts.

CHGA-FM was given approval to affiliate with the Radio Mutual network for news and sports.

On August 29, CHGA was given approval to affiliate with the Radio MF C.I.E.L. (1981) Inc. (CIEL) radio network service between midnight and 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Saturday.

CHGA was noted operating on 97.3 MHz. It was a Type B Community Station. Studios and offices were located at 163, rue Laurier in Maniwaki.
