1965
Stanley J. Solberg received a licence to operate an AM station at Rosetown, a local farming community in West Central Saskatchewan. It would broadcast with a full-time power of 10,000 watts on a frequency of 1330 kHz. Dinosaur Broacasting Ltd., owner of CJDV in Drumheller, Alberta would be a temporary owner of 51% of the new station. Solberg had an option to buy that 51% over five years. Twenty local businessmen and farmers would also hold shares.
1966
CKKR 1330 began broadcasting on August 8. The station was owned by Goose Lake Broadcasting Co. Ltd. Stanley Solberg was the first general manager.
CKKR was one of the first stations in Saskatchewan with a country and western format and was known across the province as "Wide West Radio". Sonny James, the "Southern Gentleman" and one of the biggest names in country music at the time, participated in the station’s grand opening ceremonies.
The studios were located in a converted one-storey house. With a population of only 2,500, Rosetown was one of the smallest communities in Canada with a 10,000 watt radio station.
1977
The CRTC approved a transfer of shares in CKKR to John P. Hamilton.
1978
Stan Solberg sold CKKR on March 3 to a group of investors which included Wax Williams (Production and News Director), Jim Blundell (Sales Manager) and Ron Hyckaway (General Manager). The group ran CKKR under Solberg's licence for a full year before receiving their own licence. Their first bid to purchase the station outright was turned down by the CRTC in June, 1978. In September, 1979, they were given the green light to proceed with the purchase. This new management group from Alberta began another long chapter in the station's history.
Wax Williams became President and General Manager in 1981, and over the course of time, Rosetown became recognized as the Farmers' Radio station. The focus was on agriculture, and community involvement was key to its success.
Station promotions were geared to a rural audience and the annual ''Grain Bin Giveaway" awarded a total of 10 grain bins to farmers across the area.
1984
CKKR 1330 switched call letters on March 1st, replacing its long time country format with a "Music Of Your Life" and became identified as CJYM.
In 1986, CJYM in Rosetown received CRTC approval to establish CFYM, a re-broadcasting station in the neighbouring community of Kindersley. CFYM with 1,000 watts on 1210 AM.
A year later, the name of the company was changed from Goose Lake Broadcasting Co. Ltd. to the Dace Broadcasting Corporation.
1988
Rod Parker was now news director at CJYM.
1995
CJYM/CFYM was recognized as a leader in technology. During the 1990s it was one of the first radio stations in Saskatchewan to broadcast in digital, and also one of the first to broadcast over the internet.
The station demonstrated a creative and progressive approach to broadcasting, developing into a recognized community leader in an area that was large but sparsely populated.
Dace Broadcasting Corporation was sold in 1999 to Golden West Broadcasting Ltd., a company based out of Altona, Manitoba, and owned by Elmer Hildebrand.
2010
On May 28, the CRTC renewed the licence of CJYM (and CFYM Kindersley) until August 31, 2016.
