CKRG-FM, Campus - Radio Glendon, Toronto
On January 16, CRTC approval was given for the operation of an English (90%) and French (10%) AM carrier-current station at Toronto on frequency 800 kHz with transmitter power of 25 watts.
On September 28, Bayview Avenue Non-profit Student Radio Ltd. (Radio Glendon) had its application for an FM campus/community station denied. The proposed North York station would have broadcast on 106.3 MHz with effective radiated power of 200 watts. At this time Radio Glendon was operating CKRG, a 25 watt AM carrier current operation serving Glendon College, a bilingual college of York University. The plan was to replace CKRG with an over-the-air FM station. Radio Glendon proposed to broadcast 126 hours of programming each week for seven months of the year during the fall and winter academic sessions, and 75 hours each week for four months during the summer academic session, as well as for one month during the Christmas break. 78.2% of its programming would be in English, 20% in French, and 1.8% in Spanish.
On September 10, Bayview Avenue Non-Profit Student Radio was licenced to operate an English FM community-based campus radio station at Glendon College in Toronto. It would operate at 89.9 MHz with an effective radiated power of one watt. Glendon College (affiliated with York University), operated carrier-current CKRG Radio Glendon. The new FM would broadcast an average of 70 hours per broadcast week (14 hours in French). The station would provide training in radio broadcasting for student volunteers, and community members would also be invited to participate in its programming. The FM would offer a wide range of music and spoken word programming that would duplicate the programming format offered on CKRG-CC.
CKRG-FM Radio Glendon began broadcasting on September 25. Studios and offices were located at the college, 2275 Bayview Avenue.
On August 31, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence of CKRG-FM until August 31, 2012. The Commission noted that licence renewal applications for this station had not been received. If the licence renewal application was not been received by November 30, 2011, the Commission may not renew the licence further.
On September 4, the CRTC administratively renewed CKRG-FM's licence to February 28, 2013.
