On December 19, Newcap Inc. was awarded a licence for a new FM station at Camrose, operating on 98.1 MHz with an effective radiated power of 50,000 watts. The new station would offer a Classic Hits music format to complement the Country programming offered by sister station CFCW-AM.

 

2005

On September 8, the new station began testing its signal with classic hit music and "Star 98" station IDs.

At 4 p.m. on Friday, September 30th, CFCW-FM signed on the air as "Big Earl 98.1 FM...He plays anything country!" Studios and offices were in Camrose and at the West Edmonton Mall.

On December 12th at 9:00 a.m., Big Earl’s country format moved to sister station 96.3 CKRA in Edmonton. CFCW-FM Camrose became known as “CAM-FM 98 dot 1… Greatest Hits of All Time”. 

2009

Ross Hawse, General Sales Manager at Newcap Radio Edmonton, joined Rawlco Radio Edmonton on November 30.

2009-10

Dave Warawa was now general sales manager at Newcap Edmonton. He had been retail sales manager. Kelly Walter, formerly of Magic 99.9 Edmonton, was now Newcap retail sales manager.

2010

On November 23, the CRTC renewed the licence for CFCW-FM to 31 August 2014. This short-term renewal would enable the Commission to review the licensee's compliance with the Radio Regulations, 1986 and its conditions of licence at an earlier date. 

Pat Cardinal became Program Manager of Newcap Alberta's 31 radio stations. Cardinal, who retained his Operations Manager duties at the Edmonton cluster, saw his added role include being a programming and promotional resource to the Newcap Alberta Hub Managers and PD's. He's been with Newcap Edmonton for two years.

2012

Nick Addams, Program Director at CAM FM 98.1 Camrose, was appointed PD at sister station C103 Moncton. He began in Moncton, April 16. Retail Sales Manager Kelly Walter was promoted to General Sales Manager at Newcap's Edmonton Radio Group. Stepping in to his RSM role at Capital FM and K97 was Doug McCulloch, promoted from Senior Account Manager. Leo Pilon continued as RSM for CFCW, CAM and W1440.

Jackie Rae Greening, who had the multitasks of being Program Director at CFCW Camrose, Station Manager at CFCW-FM and Station Manager at W 1440 (CKJR) Westaskawin, was promoted to the newly-created position of Newcap's Manager, Edmonton Operations.

June Meeboer was the new Station Manager at CAM FM/W1440 Camrose/ Wetaskiwin. Her previous experience was with Telus in sales management. She began December 10.

2013

It was announced that Sharon Taylor, General Manager at QX 104/FAB 94.3 Winnipeg, would be moving to take on the GM position at the Newcap Edmonton stations (CFCW-AM-FM, CIRK, CKRA) as of December 2. 

2017

In November, CFCW-FM changed format from Classic Hits (Cam FM) to Country (New Country 98.1).
